Through karate training, we aim to instil a wide range of values and life skills in children that go beyond physical techniques. One of the core values we focus on is discipline. Karate teaches children the importance of self-discipline, commitment, and perseverance. By following a structured training regimen, children learn to set goals, work hard to achieve them, and stay dedicated even when faced with challenges.
Respect is another fundamental value that is deeply ingrained in karate practice. Children learn to respect their instructors, peers, and the art of karate itself. This respect extends beyond the dojo and into their everyday lives, fostering positive relationships and interactions with others.
Karate also teaches children the value of focus and concentration. Through repetitive practice of techniques and katas, children develop mental clarity and the ability to stay focused on the task at hand. This skill is invaluable in helping children excel academically, professionally, and in any other pursuits they may undertake.
Furthermore, karate training instils confidence in children. As they progress in their training and master new skills, children gain a sense of accomplishment and self-assurance. This confidence translates into all areas of their lives, empowering them to tackle challenges with courage and resilience.
Additionally, karate promotes a strong sense of responsibility and accountability. Children learn to take ownership of their actions, both on and off the mat. They understand the importance of making positive choices and behaving in a manner that reflects well on themselves and their dojo.
Teamwork and cooperation are also key values that children learn through karate training. Whether practicing katas with a partner or participating in group exercises, children develop essential teamwork skills that are crucial for success in any collaborative environment.
This is for both Children and adults. Everyone has a busy life and I am almost positive that at some point a student will miss a class or two. This may be due to a number of reasons like holidays or sickness.
But just to be clear for each class you miss, you will be charged unless you are on our bronze package which is pay as you go.
Now this may seem harsh. But unfortunately cant be helped. You can catch up your hours by staying later in the adults class or coming along to our other dojo but there will always be a chance to catch up.
There will be even a chance to catch up online in the future.
Firstly if you have a concern or question in regards to your child's training then please get in touch with the lead instructor. If they do not know they can not help you. If you have concerns for any other students in the club bring this to the attention of the instructors who can chat to you privately. They have extensive knowledge about safeguarding vulnerable children and adults.
Our instructors are experienced in martial arts and other forms of tutoring. We provide a safe space for children and adults to train. We offer protective equipment when sparring and use foam matting on the floor if we are doing any form of self defence. We demonstrate each technique clearly and slowly to allow the children to take in the information and then allow them to practice the techniques under close supervision. One instructor can teach up to 16 students under the obligations of their insurance policy. With a second adult supervising this can go to a maximum of 35.
Sensei Steve is a trained first aider up to Police Trauma Medic standard and knows how to handle situations that arise from conflict. There is basic first aid equipment onsite and you should know where the emergency evacuation plan of the dojo. If you don't know then ask.
Karate is one of the best activities a child can practice, with the degree of discipline, respect and etiquette taught in the class the child will learn to accept more responsibilities, become more aware and confident. Add to this fitness and the ability to be able to stand up for themselves, you can see why so many parents enrol their children in karate classes.
Children from 5 years of age are accepted and we look to have a good mix of boys and girls of all diversities
At East Riding Karate Club we have a separate class times for younger children which is designed to cater for their attention spans, physical limitations and their ability to take new things on board.
The main aim of the children's class is to teach the principles of karate and self defence, for them to get some exercise and to work within structured groups following instructions from an adult. Over a period of time it also has a positive influence on their self discipline and attention spans.
